Oaxaca nightlife is quite a sight with its trendy, hip, and fabulous crowd. Local celebrities, socialites, and self-proclaimed ‘gorgeous people’ hit the city’s clubs to get a dose of pure fun. There are plenty of options for Oaxaca clubs, but your choice will depend on your abilities, level of euphoria, physical conditioning, and musical tastes.


Candela is a great spot to mingle with locals, drink tequila, dance salsa, and to eat if you want to. Expect the floor to be packed with people enjoying the live salsa music. Do not content yourself watching great dancers. Hit the floor and enjoy the night. Do not worry if you have to left feet – the floor is too tight for other people to notice your dancing. Casa de Cantera

The Casa de Cantera looks rather drab during the day, but it magically transforms itself into a colorful club at night. It offers mesmerizing shows, with lots of great music and lively dancing. The Casa de Guelaguetza show starts at 8:30pm all night of the week. The cover charge is $10. Address: Murguiá 102, Centro Histórico.

La Tentación

La Tentación is one of Oaxaca’s most revered and most popular watering holes. There are Cumbia, salsa, and meringue dancing on the terrace every night starting at 10. Address: Calle Matamoros 101, at Calle García Vigil, Centro Histórico.

El Sol y La Luna

El Sol y La Luna is a beautiful little place with three adjoining rooms and a lovely patio. This Oaxaca club has been serving customers for more than two decades with great line ups of good talent. The music can be about anything from jazz music to blues and be-bop tunes to tango. Cover charge ranges from $2.50-$5. It is open Monday to Saturday from 9:30pm to1am. Address: Reforma 502.

If you like to dance to pulsating techno, choose from the following excellent Oaxaca clubs: NRG located at 102 Calzada Porfirio Díaz, Salón Central at 302 Hidalgo, Tapas & Pisto Bar at 403 Alcalá, and Bhuddha’s Bar located at 219 Porfirio Díaz. There are also something for the rock-loving crowd: the Divina Bar situated at 104 Gurrión.
